Iguazu Falls - Breathtaking, Spectacular, Stunning - words are not enough to describe this wonder of nature.
Iguazu Falls / Cataratas del Iguazu / originate from the Iguazu river and are located on the border of Argentina and Brazil. Spectacular 275 individual waterfalls make Iguazu Falls one of the most impressive waterfalls systems in the world, voted as one of the new 7 Natural Wonders of the World.
Whilst the majority of the falls are in Argentina (about 80%), a better overview is from the Brazilian side. It's worth spending one day at each side. Iguazu Falls are nearly twice as high as Niagara Falls and nearly three times wider. It's known that when Eleanor Roosevelt saw the Iguazu Falls she exclaimed: "Poor Niagara". Iguazu Falls are wider than the Victoria Falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe, but Victoria Falls is classified as the waterfall with the largest water curtain in the world based both on its width and height. The Devil's throat / Garganta del Diablo / is the most impressive in the whole water system of Iguazu. It's in Argentina and includes 14 waterfalls. It's U-shaped and 82 meters in height. An unforgettable experience is going on a speedboat under the falls ( Macuco safari ). Be ready to get all wet, yet very exciting and awesome adventure you simply can't miss.
When is the best time to visit Iguazu falls? Well, this is subjective. For instance, I was there in the end of November which is considered not the best time since it rains a lot. And, yes, we had to stay one hour in the bus to wait the pouring rain to stop. But on the other hand, this was a fantastic time because we saw the falls full of water to its maximum. And that was incredible. If you go there between March - May or August-September, the weather will be dryer and more sunny, but the falls will have less water.
