Ayia Napa is one of the most popular and largest resort towns in Cyprus. It is located on the Mediterranean sea in the south-eastern part of the island, which is the Greek part of Cyprus. Official languages are Greek and Turkish. Largely spoken are also English and Russian.
Ayia Napa enjoys very pleasant and mild climate with hot dry summers and mild winters. It is the ideal place for all sunseekers and fans of long summers. The warmest months are July, August and September with temperatures rising above 30 degrees Celsius.
The nearest international airport is in the town of Larnaca, some 57 km away from Ayia Napa. The best way to travel from Larnaca airport to Ayia Napa is to book a private or shared shuttle transfer. There is no direct bus service, so if you want to use this option you have to get first a bus from the airport to the city and then get another bus from Larnaca to Ayia Napa.
Driving in Cyprus is on the left-hand side of the road, like in the UK. They also have the British type of sockets and plugs.
Ayia Napa offers a 12km stripe of beautiful sandy beaches with crystal clear sea. There is a big variety of hotels, private accommodations and luxurious villas to choose from for your comfortable stay.
The most popular beach is Nissi Beach , a Blue Flag beach which is known for its white sand and crystal turquoise shallow water. It offers lively atmosphere often with DJ parties right on the beach.
In high season Nissi beach tends to get overcrowded with people. Visit when the tide is low, as you’ll get to walk out to the small islet of Nissi, where the beach gets its name from. There are sunbeds and umbrellas to rent, as well as restaurants for food and drinks.
Other popular beaches are Makronisos Beach, Pantachou Beach, Landa Beach.
You can also go to Ammos Kambouri beach which is a small natural bay between Ayia Napa and the Cape Greco region with a sandy beach with a few rocky structures.
Grecian bay is another popular sandy beach with incredible crystal blue water. Next to Grecian Bay is located Ayia Napa harbour from where you can board a cruise boat.
Cape Greco is an attraction of its own and you will not regret to visit it. It is one of the most ancient settlements on the island - ancient wreck of the 2nd century AD was discovered and investigated by divers in the marine area of Cape Greco..
The area is designated as a National Forest Park It offers beautiful sea caves to explore and is a popular place for diving. The beautiful park also features loads of nature trails offering views of sea waves, cliffs, beaches and pine forests.
The Love Bridge is a Cyprus' landmark and one of the most romantic places in the whole country.. Love bridge is an impressive white-rock arch formed naturally above the sea. It is located next to Grecian Bay and is a beautiful place to celebrate love and make memories.
According to a local myth, couples should go to the middle of the bridge arch and make a wish while kissing each other. and the wish will come true. For more romantic experience you should visit it before sunset to witness magical views.
In the central square of the city you'll find he medieval Monastery of Ayia Napa built around 1500 AD. and the Panagia church dedicated to Virgin Mary.
One of the activities you must do during your holiday is to go on a cruise along the south-eastern coast of the country.
Cyprus has a picturesque and rugged coastline that is worth to be explored by cruising on a boat. There are plenty of options to book a cruise and enjoy 4-5 hours sailing in the spectacular blue waters and admire magnificent sea caves and grottos.
Here is the cruise I have joined:
The boat is nice, lunch is included and two stops for snorkeling and swimming at the Blue Lagoon and Konnos Bay.
Ayia Napa is very popular with young tourists, as it is the nightlife capital of Cyprus. The town offers in the evenings very lively streets with numerous restaurants, clubs and taverns.
Families with children will have fun in Parko Paliatso Luna park and
WaterWorld Themed Waterpark.
